Hard Covers

Hard cover books are books are covered with high quality book cloth. We stock 6 colors, and custom colors can be ordered for orders of 50 or more books. See our stock colors at right. Please contact us to request a swatchbook.

note: we will begin to offer more hardcover types, including printed wraps, in Spring '10.

 

 

 

Soft Covers

Our standard soft cover books use 100lb cover stock (270gsm). 4/Color printing is standard. Priting on the inside of the cover is possible upon request.

One side laminate is available in either gloss or matte finish. Dark colored covers can only be laminated with gloss as the matte laminate does not work well with heavy toner coverage. We recommend gloss laminate for black covers, and other very dark colors such as dark blue and maroon in order to prevent chipping and scratching.

 

 

 

Hot Foil Stamping

Our Hard Cover books can be decorated with true hot foil stamping on the front of the cover as well as the spine. Edition One is among the very few short run digital book makers offering this service. Hot foil is a very old process, and involves hand pressing a hot metal die into the surface of the cover. There is no substitute for this traditional method!

 

 

 

 

Inset Cover Image

Mounting an image onto your cloth cover lends a beautiful finishing touch to your book. Edition One takes the time to indent the area where the printed image will be mounted. This creates a slightly beveled area surrounding the print. Mounted images must fit our preset dimensions: 2"x2", 3"x4", 4"x4", 3.34"x5", 4"x5", 5"x5.85".

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Dust Jackets

Dust jackets offer a beautiful way to protect and showcase your book. Our dust jackets are printed on 65lb cover stock, and can be delivered with gloss or matte lamination. If you're interested in a dust jacket for your book, we'll provide you with the dimensions and specifications for layout when you place your order.

 

 

 

Endpapers

Our standard endpapers are heavy acid free papers and are available in Black, Charcoal Gray, and Cream.

Clients in search of a truly unique design are welcome to opt for custom printed endpapers. If this option interests you, please ask us about file preparation and costs.

 

 

Printing Paper

At Edition One we've tested many papers with our printing equipment, and we know what prints best.

Photo Books are printed on super smooth uncoated bright white paper. Books with 120 pages or less are printed on 60lb cover paper (162 gsm) , and books with 122-200 pages are printed on 100lb text paper (148 gsm).

Text based books are also printed on uncoated stock. Books with less than 200 pages are generally printed with 80lb text weight paper. Books with more than 200 pages will be printed with 70lb text paper. Both bright white and warm white paper is available.
